Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Instructional Aide works collaboratively with the classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts and assist in the preparation of lesson materials, displays, equipment, and demonstrations. Under the direction of the teacher, the aide presents lessons or portions of lessons using discussion, demonstration, or guided practice, and provides individual or small-group tutoring to reinforce skills previously taught. The aide supervises students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playground areas, gymnasiums, and during field trips, and helps conduct demonstrations for activities such as sports, crafts, or other enrichment experiences.
The aide distributes textbooks, workbooks, papers, pencils, homework, and tests, and collects and organizes completed assignments. The aide enforces school policies and classroom rules, assists with grading assignments using answer keys or electronic tools, and records results as directed. The aide instructs and monitors students in the proper use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage, observes student behavior and performance, and documents relevant information to support instructional decision-making.
Additional responsibilities include organizing and labeling classroom materials, preparing displays of student work, supervising games and recreational activities to support social and physical development, and participating in teacher-parent conferences when appropriate. The aide provides additional support for students with special needs, including English learners and students with physical or cognitive disabilities. The aide takes attendance, maintains attendance records, and assists with student arrival and dismissal, including bus loading and unloading.
The aide attends staff meetings and participates on committees as assigned. The aide helps maintain classroom or lab computers, assists students with appropriate use of hardware and software, and manages the requisition and stocking of classroom supplies. The aide also completes clerical tasks such as typing, filing, duplicating materials, and other duties assigned by the supervising teacher or school administration.
Requirements:Qualifications
Candidates must hold a high school diploma and either two years of college coursework or an associate degree. Experience working in K–12 education is preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills are required, along with the ability to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills with students, families, and staff. Candidates must successfully complete all required local, state, and federal background checks and provide documentation of a current TB test.
