The New York Times is continuing to expand its video journalism, identifying compelling visual stories across the depth and breadth of our report. The Video department is looking for a Video Producer to help produce and publish short-form video journalism for the Watch Tab, where we feature the expertise of Times journalists on-camera, news updates, on-the-ground reporting, pioneering Visual Investigations, and video podcasts. This role is central to making our best work discoverable and compelling in a mobile, vertical-video format. You’re a strong writer and capable video editor, skilled at publishing workflows, with a meticulous attention to detail. You excel at tracking breaking and ongoing news while consistently meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You also have a good understanding of successful short-form vertical video and demonstrate a keen eye with exceptional attention to detail. This is an editorial role that will work under the oversight of the Assistant Editor for the Watch Tab. You will edit and upload video for the newsroom and subbrand teams who contribute to the Watch Tab, including Cooking and The Athletic. This is an in‑office position based in New York and includes regular attendance in the office four days each week. Responsibilities Coordinate and collaborate across video teams to re‑version videos for the Watch Tab. Adapt edited videos in Adobe Premiere to meet the needs of the Watch Tab, including adding text and swapping out video graphics. Select compelling thumbnails, write captions and more. Write succinct and effective headlines and summaries for video assets. Take videos through the NYT publication process, including graphics checks, copy editing and more. Maintain organization systems to track videos being processed for publication. Support the scheduling and programming of videos in the Watch Tab. Participate in special projects related to the Watch Tab as needed. Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world. This role reports to the Assistant Editor, Video. Basic Qualifications 2+ years of proven journalism experience (preferably in a digital video or broadcast newsroom). Proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro, able to edit quickly and accurately. Demonstrated understanding of the video production process. Demonstrated writing and researching skills. Preferred Qualifications Ability to meet fast deadlines and adapt to a daily, unpredictable news production environment. Strong editorial judgment and writing skills. Thorough knowledge of global current events, with experience covering global news. A foundational knowledge of legal, ethical, copyright and usage issues for visuals. Well‑versed in the world of social and digital media, with a keen eye on what competitors are doing and what new tools are being used. Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
