Summary

The Ambulatory Medication Safety Officer role is held by a pharmacist who provides oversight and serves as a leader in formulating policy and instituting models that promote medication safety. This role includes responsibility for leadership, medication safety expertise, influencing practice change, research, and education. The role will support safe handling of controlled, hazardous, and compounded medications in compliance with federal, state, and accrediting institutions' requirements to reduce preventable harm, meet regulatory standards, and strengthen survey readiness.


Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: PharmD from an accredited College of Pharmacy required.
  2. License/Certifications: Current applicable state(s) license with Board of Pharmacy required.
  3. Experience: Two years of work experience providing direct patient care including but not limited to patient monitoring and drug therapy reviews preferred. ASHP accredited PGY 1 Pharmacy Residency training or at least five years practice within a health-system or equivalent setting required.
