Job Description
We are building a narrative AI film studio at the frontier of generative filmmaking focused on Christian & spiritual animation, and we're looking for an AI Narrative Sound Designer to own the complete sonic identity of our productions. You are the sound department — from the first pass of a soundscape through final mix and master, the audio story is yours to tell.
This role is for someone who composes with emotional intelligence, focuses on helping viewers feel the emotions of the story, and designs sound with cinematic instinct. You should approach AI not as a replacement for craft but as a tool that, when used with discernment, makes great work happen faster and easier. You'll work closely with directors, editors, and AI artists to ensure that at every stage of production, sound and picture are telling the same story. You'll use AI audio tools actively and intelligently, reaching for them when they serve the work and setting them aside when they don't.
Candidates with backgrounds in film sound, animation audio, game audio, or music composition for picture are strongly encouraged to apply. This is a remote contract role with the potential to grow into a full-time position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Sound Design
- Design and build complete soundscapes for AI-generated animated sequences
- Create, source, and layer SFX to support character, environment, and narrative
- Develop a consistent sonic identity across scenes and across a production
- Apply intentional frequency-based principles where appropriate — including alternative tuning systems such as 432hz or 444hz — to support the emotional and tonal goals of a piece
Dialogue Editing
- Edit, clean, and process dialogue recordings for clarity and consistency
- Align dialogue to picture and correct timing, breath, and pacing issues
- Collaborate with directors on performance decisions that affect the edit — you are a creative partner in how the story sounds, not just a technical processor
Music Composition & Scoring
- Compose original scores that support narrative and emotional arcs in the style of high-quality animated feature films
- Develop themes, motifs, and musical language that carry across a production and give it a distinctive identity
- Deliver stems and cue sheets organized for iterative review and revision
- Use AI music tools where they accelerate the work — sketching, generating reference, exploring variations — while keeping compositional authorship firmly in your hands
Mixing
- Build and balance full mixes across dialogue, SFX, Foley, and music
- Mix for narrative clarity and emotional impact — not just technical balance
- Deliver mixes at multiple stages: temp, picture lock, and final
Mastering
- Master final deliverables to broadcast and streaming specifications
- Ensure sonic consistency across episodes or sequences within a production
- Deliver final files in all required formats for distribution
AI Tools R&D
- Actively research and test emerging AI audio tools — for sound design, music generation, dialogue cleanup, mixing assistance, and mastering — on a continuous basis
- Evaluate new tools against real production needs: does this make the pipeline faster, the output better, or both?
- Document findings and bring clear recommendations to the team so that promising tools are adopted quickly and the pipeline keeps moving forward
- Own the studio's awareness of the AI audio landscape — you are expected to know what's new, what's worth trying, and what isn't
Pipeline Collaboration
- Work closely with editors and directors to ensure sound and picture are always serving the same story
- Deliver draft mixes and scores for iterative review within the production pipeline
- Stay in motion and open to change — this is a generative pipeline and the work evolves
Asset & Workflow Organization
- Manage session files, stems, and versioned mixes with discipline and clarity
- Organize audio assets within shared production folders
- Maintain clean, clearly labeled deliverables that support fast, iterative review cycles
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Demonstrated experience delivering full-pipeline sound for narrative video or animation — demo reels focused primarily on commercial, social, or short-form content may not be considered
- Proficiency in professional DAWs such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, or Ableton
- Demonstrated ability to compose original scores for animated or cinematic content
- Strong understanding of how sound serves story — not just picture
- Hands-on familiarity with AI audio tools for sound design, dialogue cleanup, or music generation
- Ability to work iteratively within a collaborative creative pipeline — you give and receive notes well, and you thrive in motion
- A genuine curiosity about AI tools and a disciplined approach to using them: reach for them when they serve the work, set them aside when they don't
Preferred
- Background in animation sound, film sound, or game audio
- Experience working with AI-generated or generative media in a production context
- Familiarity with intentional frequency-based composition — including alternative tuning systems such as 432hz or 444hz — and an understanding of frequency choices
- Experience evaluating and implementing new tools in a live pipeline — you've done R&D before and know how to turn a test into a recommendation
- A demonstrated instinct for when a creative decision belongs to a human and when a tool can carry it
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
To apply, please submit:
- A short paragraph explaining why you are interested in this role
- Resume
- A portfolio or reel with links to full-pipeline sound work, preferably showing:
- Narrative or cinematic projects with original score and sound design
- Consistent sonic identity maintained across scenes or sequences
Applications without portfolio links may not be considered.
